Sacred Heart Monastery
The Purpose of our Residential Volunteer Program is to provide single women with the opportunity to enhance their lives by sharing in the life, prayer and ministries of our Monastery. Sacred Heart Monastery is situated on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River. The monastery grounds feature a wealth of flower gardens, a small vineyard, an apple orchard, the monastery vegetable garden, contemplative walking paths, and the monastery cemetery. A biking/walking path connects the Monastery to the Lewis and Clark Resort and Recreation Area that features hiking/biking paths, camping grounds, fishing, swimming, sandy beaches and more. Come and explore our incredible setting as a Resident Volunteer!
Rooted in our rural heritage and growing in relationship with God and one another in monastic community, we live a life of prayer, work, and lectio by which we serve God and Gods people in our time and place.
We are women who live in monastic community according to the Rule of St. Benedict with its 1500 years of lived tradition
We are women who profess obedience, stability and conversion of life
We are women led by a prioress, who is the spiritual leader of our community, and one whom we believe is a voice and presence of Christ in our lives
We are women of the Dakota prairies who trace our roots to the Swiss community of Maria Rickenbach, nestled on the side of a picturesque Alp
We are women, who since 1880, have ministered to God, Gods people and each other beginning in Maryville, Missouri and then in the Dakotas and beyond
We are women who strive for a balanced life of prayer, work, and recreative leisure in our lives
We are women who share our hopes and dreams, our resources and talents, our challenges and sorrows as TOGETHER WE SEEK GOD
