The Salvation Army Alegria

Organization Description:

In 1992 The Salvation Army responded to the growing impact of HIV and AIDS on homeless families in Los Angeles and established Bethesda House, a residential care facility for families affected by HIV and AIDS.

In the late 1990's antiretroviral medication extended the life of people with HIV but brought new attention to the obstacles HIV positive people faced in their search for permanent housing, health care, and family stability.

The Salvation Army established Alegria, a state of the art residential and child development facility in the neighborhood of Silver Lake, in 2001.

Alegria combines a residential care facility for the chronically ill with the whole family care of a child development center and the long term support of permanent housing.

Today, Alegria continues to bring the joy of life to families affected by HIV and AIDS.
