The Salvation Army Harbor House Childcare Center

Organization Description:

Harbor House Childcare Center primarily serves children of homeless families participating in the Harbor House Program, a transitional housing program for homeless single-parent families in recovery from substance abuse. Additionally, Harbor House Childcare Center serves children of low-income families from the South of Market and Tenderloin areas of San Francisco.
Harbor House Childcare Center is a program designed to give children Early Fundamental Learning Experiences. The program is based on the growth and developmental needs of children from infancy through age five years. It provides important, foundational experiences that foster growth and development in all areas of early learning. Positive, engaging, early learning experiences are crucial to support future school success for young children. HHCCC recognizes this importance and strivers to provide the best possible care and education for all children enrolled.
Play is the basis of all curriculum at Harbor House Childcare Center. We believe that a child?s play is the foundation of all learning. A child learns best when all five senses are involved and the ideas are relevant to their daily lives. This is why we follow an Emergent Curriculum Philosophy: focusing on the child?s interest as learning activities are developed. Basic skills and concepts that are necessary for entry into higher-grade levels are incorporated into all activities.
Our goals are:
? To provide a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment in which young children can learn through play. Each child will be given many opportunities to grow and develop at their own pace.
? To help children develop a positive self-image and independence.
? To work with parents to help each child attain his/her own unique potential.
? To maintain the trust and confidence of the parents and families who entrust their children to our care.
? To help children enjoy learning, laying the foundation for future academic study, artistic expression, and language and communication skills.
? To promote cooperative social behavior.
? To provide a comfortable and supportive environment for all those who work at and use HHCCC.
