The Sanctuary Community Development Corporation

Organization Description:

The Sanctuary Community Development Corporation exists to collaborate with others in North Minneapolis to address concerns related to health, economic and workforce development and youth development. We work to empower residents, both individually and collectively, striving to help people who lack economic and social resources and, at the same time, to correct structural injustices that affect the individuals and community of North Minneapolis.

The vision statement of the Sanctuary CDC is:

Building on the strengths in North Minneapolis, we envision a community where a diversity of people:
- Can live, work and shop
- Are physically and spiritually healthy
- Are educated and ready to work
- Create and sustain wealth

Mission Statement:

The Sanctuary Community Development Corporation will build on the strengths in North Minneapolis to ensure that the people of our community are educated, employed and physically and spiritually healthy. We will work in partnership to create economic opportunity on the North Side.

Organizational Statement of Faith:

When asked what the greatest commandment was Jesus told the disciples, Love God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and love your neighbor as yourself (Matt. 22:37-39). Jesus' command was not about what we must believe and do, but about who we must love. Loving God and loving neighbor is to be a foundational theme for Christian understanding of community development. In the end, we want people to know that the source of transformation both at an individual and community level is not The Sanctuary Community Development Corporation, not our money, our ideas, people, programs or technology, but that it is God's love for us and through us that brings real change. It is the love of Christ that will transform us all, the poor, the non-poor, the church, and North Minneapolis.
