SandCastles & MudPies

Organization Description:

After moving to the beautiful holiday town of Salt Rock 3 years ago, I was struck by the differences on either side of the N2 highway. On the coastal side are properties worth millions of rands and inland are communities living in poverty. I started doing research with Community Based Workers in order to create a balance on either side of the highway and realized that although I could help make a difference to one person, with groups of volunteers we could make a difference daily. And that is how SandCastles & MudPies came about.
We accommodate groups of up to 20 people per week.
A good portion of each day is spent working in the community on the various projects.
But all work and no play is NOT our philosophy… so we have plenty of fun activities for when we are not working in the community.
The following are just a few of the many fun, free activities we arrange each day:
Surfing, body boarding, snorkeling, beach fun, fishing, canoes, paddle ski, mountain bike rides through sugar cane farms, skate boarding, ripstix, hikes, picnics, drum circle
Safety is important to us so the beaches we use have shark nets and life guards and all our counselors have First Aid and CPR training.
