Shalom Seekers
(1) We conduct primary research into the activities and capacity of the church to engage in holistic urban mission in the unique contexts of CAnada and BC's Lower Mainland. (2) We provide numerous forums for practitioners to network, strategize, and learn from each other. (3) We create training opportunities for laity. (4) We facilitate cross-sectoral initiatives to address the root causes of poverty.
Much of our work to date has centred on collaborative efforts to supply affordable housing and best practice holistic supports.
In labouring toward a sustainable city, Shalom Seekers emphasizes community development over relief work, justice over charity, as a vocation for all who would follow Jesus. Regardless of how we make a living, each of us is called to make a life of mutually transforming relationships with people who have been pushed to the edge – not so that they may be brought into the centre of society, but rather so that society’s centre (ourselves included) may be shifted closer to Jesus, who is encountered especially among them.
At its broadest, our mission is to innovate patterns of living as a unified counter-cultural Christian communtiy in 21st Century urban Canada.
