Shalom Zone Ministries
After School Program - serves children in grades K-5 and runs 4 days per week during the school year. This program provides a safe place with caring adults, and places specific focus on serveral important content areas. Two days are devoted to homework help, crafts and games, a computer lab, and special programs such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and 4-H programs. A third day is devoted solely to literacy activities and math, and also features a book club for girls ages 10-13. The fourth day incorporates health into our After School Program by providing a healthy lifestyle day, filled with activities devoted to nutrition and physical activity. We also offer a two day per week teen club for children in grades 6-8th.
Summer Day Camp - serves children in grades K-5 and runs for six weeks. Activities include Bible study, crafts, active games, music, and daily field trips.
Back-To-School Health Fair - offered each summer, it serves children in grades K-12 and provides free medical services, school supplies, a meal, door prizes and entertainment.
Shalom Zone Ministries is a faith-based outreach support to children and families done through an educational and community health model. Our vision is Working toward Hope and Wholeness, beginning with Children. We seek to minister to each child as a whole - mentally, spiritually, physically, and socially. Since 1997, Shalom Zone Ministries has been serving high risk, low-income families in Des Moines' inner city.
