Organization Description: 

After School Program - serves children in grades K-5 and runs 4 days per week during the school year. This program provides a safe place with caring adults, and places specific focus on serveral important content areas. Two days are devoted to homework help, crafts and games, a computer lab, and special programs such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and 4-H programs. A third day is devoted solely to literacy activities and math, and also features a book club for girls ages 10-13. The fourth day incorporates health into our After School Program by providing a healthy lifestyle day, filled with activities devoted to nutrition and physical activity. We also offer a two day per week teen club for children in grades 6-8th.
Summer Day Camp - serves children in grades K-5 and runs for six weeks. Activities include Bible study, crafts, active games, music, and daily field trips.
Back-To-School Health Fair - offered each summer, it serves children in grades K-12 and provides free medical services, school supplies, a meal, door prizes and entertainment.

Our vision is Working toward Hope and Wholeness, beginning with Children. We seek to minister to each child as a whole - mentally, spiritually, physically, and socially. Since 1997, Shalom Zone Ministries has been serving high risk, low-income families in Des Moines' inner city.
