Shepherd's Center of the Northland
SCN is a community oriented; not-for-profit organization founded in 1990, affiliated with Shepherd's Centers of America, a national association of more than 70 centers serving older adults across the United States. SCN is dedicated to promoting the physical, mental and social well-being of older adults and assisting them in maintaining their dignity, continued productivity and independence.
Our primary service area is southern Clay County, which includes Gladstone and North Kansas City. Also, in some instances SCN serves southern Platte County.
We have identified two areas of needs: one is for a variety of Services that help older adults remain independent and retain their dignity. We are proud that most of our services are provided without cost. The second is for Enrichment opportunities; these are programs that allow older adults to share their many areas of expertise with others in the community and to also continue learning and growing themselves.
Shepherd's Center of the Northland is a non-profit agency with IRS 501(C)(3) designation. We are primarily funded through the generosity of individual and business donations; additionally we are assisted by 60 supporting religious congregations, United Way, grants and fund raising events.
Our mission is to: "Improve the quality of life of older adults in the Northland"
We work with people of all faith, thus, making us an interface agency to impact the lives of olders adults.
