Society of St. Andrew

Organization Description:

Nationwide hunger-relief ministry. Fresh produce salvage and distribution to the hungry. The Society of St. Andrew Gleaning Network uses volunteers to glean farmers' fields and orchards for nutritious produce left behind after the harvest, and to salvage slightly blemished produce culled out in packing houses - all perfectly good food that would otherwise be plowed under or left to rot. Our Potato & Produce Project salvages truckloads of commercially unmarketable potatoes and other produce donated by members of the agricultural community. Using the contributions of our individual, church, corporate and foundation supporters, we donate and deliver the produce to food banks, pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other critical service agencies nationwide, which, in turn, distribute it directly to the needy in every state. Our Harvest of Hope program educates people about the hunger problem and encourages them to make lifelong commitments to being part of the solution.
