Stars (formerly LACF)
Stars provides three large programs for the community: Stars After School, Stars Mentoring, and Stars Summer Enrichment.
Stars After School provides academic support through homework-based tutoring, literacy, technology training, and enrichment activities. Stars After School currently serves approximately 100 students and utilizes approximately 130 volunteers. The program also works with families by empowering parents to discover best practices for supporting their children. This includes parenting class, counseling, support groups, nutrition education and other learning opportunities like ESL and technology classes. We currently have a HUGE need for more volunteers. If you are interested in serving, please contact us!
The Mentoring Program provides neighborhood students in Pasadena an opportunity to rise above the challenges of their environment to become college-educated community leaders. The Mentoring Program currently mentors 60 youth and utilizes more than 50 volunteer mentors. Stars uses mentoring relationships with positive Christian role models to focus building developmental assets, living life together in humility and mutual learning, and helping the student prepare for adulthood.
