TCC
We're a 40 year old CCD organization. Our founder Bill Brown is on the Advisory Board of CCDA. We've existed by the grace of God to answer the needs of our target community and ultimately assist others to do the same across the city. Our hands are full and we've, at most times, put PR on the backburner; it seems that an unspoken goal has been to serve the community in tangible ways.
Before the Storm our focus was Youth Ministry. Through a host of Bible studies, much needed tutoring in school and after school, summer programs, trips to Camps, etc.. (Ministry here, means service). Partnerships with YoungLife, WildLife, and Kids Across America "Kamps" helped greatly. Our AmeriCorps team and some local Colleges helped to facilitate the service of literacy and math tutoring. While several Mission Trips and individual volunteers from all over the country helped us in our efforts to raise literacy scores, and/or serve our community.
Now, we have thousands more volunteers from all over the country and from colleges far and near partnering and helping us to rebuild. We are still spending time with kids when the AmeriCorps team isn't working on houses. Members have helped and even coordinate and facilitate those efforts. We will eventually move back in the direction of full time working with youth but we need to help their families build first.
Simply, to afford opportunity where there is none.
To affirm hope where hope is wounded or misplaced.
At this time to restore, and bring back better than it was.
