Who We Are
For 40 years the Valley Rescue Mission has worked to affect a change in the quality of life for the homeless, the needy, and the addicted, and to help people reenter society as productive, contributing citizens upon completion of the programs. This goal is not always an easily accomplished task.
The staff of the Valley Rescue Mission continuously asks itself ?what are God?s expectations of me and the Mission and how are we fulfilling His expectations.? We do not want the Valley Rescue Mission to be thought of as a ?holding area? for the poor but rather a beacon to guide and direct the clients and residents, that come to us, towards our Savior, Jesus Christ.
The success rate at the Mission has proven if a person wants to change his lifestyle we must provide him with the immediate basic needs of food, clothing, and shelter. We must educate and equip him with the knowledge to change. But most importantly, he must consecrate his life on the foundation of Jesus Christ, which is the direct path to salvation, recovery, and success.
A strong set of core values is an integral part of the Valley Rescue Mission staff. We are a dedicated people willing to take risks to work for the Lord as genuinely, committed warriors for Christ. The current staff working at the Mission is here because they aren?t afraid to take risks when God calls them to His field. When we minister to people in need the only criterion required is that they want help.
We are serious about our commitment to providing a Christ-centered biblically based program of recovery; to the community to be good stewards of the gifts they give to us; and, most importantly to God for the souls and lives He leads to the Valley Rescue Mission.
We do not receive government funds or United Way funds but rely solely upon the generosity of the community through contributions from individuals, businesses, clubs, civic groups, schools, and private family foundations. To generate income we prepare and send direct mail letters each month, utilize various advertising media, i.e., television and radio, and speak to groups throughout the community. Our books are open to the public for review.
We also receive funds from the sales generated in our five bargain centers (three in Columbus, one in Phenix City, Alabama and one in LaGrange, Georgia). One hundred percent of all of the money generated through the sale of items in our bargain centers comes right back into the Mission?s general operating budget to help support our ministries.
