Volusia Interfaith/Agencies Networking in Disaster
Volusia Interfaith/Agencies Networking in Disaster (VIND) came into existence after the Florida fires of 1998 that affected the citizens of Volusia County.
VIND aims to meet the long-term unmet needs of individuals and their families before and during the time of community related disasters.
VIND is involved with the mitigation of homes to permanently eliminate or reduce the long-term risk to human life, & property.
The mitigation process involves securing the homes of low-income homeowners, by installing shutter, securing roofs, and replacing garage doors.
VIND is also the only long term disaster relief agency in Volusia County that assists low-income homeowners with the repair of their homes after the disaster.
VIND has a small staff that administers and coordinates these programs and volunteers, and a rebuild coordinator who oversees the volunteer labor.
VIND is a coalition of faith-based organizations, partnered with allied agencies and each other, which promotes networking to prepare Volusia County, Fl communities for the effects of disaster, and in the aftermath, facilitates spiritual and long-term practical aid. VIND'S purpose in uniting interfaith organizations, agencies, businesses, and individuals is to minimize duplication of services and utilize resources combined with a spirit of community volunteerism to most effectively serve Volusia County.
