YATTA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAMM is a non governmental Christian organization based in yatta district formed by Kenyan born again Christians to fight poverty within Kenya and in particularly yatta,mwala,mwingi,kitui,mbeere districts of Kenya which are mostly affected by frequent long droughts causing many to leave below poverty line and students to drop from schools due to lack of school fees.
The climates conditions have culminated in extended famines, water shortages, sicknesses and ecceleletion of street children who latter involve themselves in crimes.
It is believed after every good harvest there comes a very spear drought which leaves nothing in the home be it cattle, chicken, cat, name it even dogs are killed to minimize the expense or die due to starvation.
When one of our officers was doing a demography survey of yatta district he meets with one Kamba old man who had these to say {Nothing bad like famine we gave our young sisters in marriage to kikuyu tribe in exchange with a tin of rice.}The old man could remember the kamba names which their ancestors gave to the unmerciful disasters famines like,
YUA YA KAKUTI, YUA YA NGETELE, YUA YA MUVUNGA, YUA YA NDATA, YUA YA NDEKE, YUA YA LONGOSA YUA YA NIKWA NGWETE
