Youth for Christ

Organization Description:

Currently in Selkirk we run a drop in program two nights a week. The drop in is open for all youth ages 12-19 and offers kids a safe alternative place to hang out. At the drop in kids are met by caring adults you see value in each and every teenager that walks through the door. We believe that lasting relationships equals lasting change and our volunteers are committed to seeing kids reach their God-given potential. There are so many youth these days who are struggling through life without hope, many facing depression along with many other issues all alone. At YFC we see the hope and potential of every young person and in everything we do we try to place it within the framework of contributing to the much needed building blocks of healthy development in kids. Of course we are faith based and so one of our other efforts is to partner with area churches to reach out to this community's large number of youth. We will be offering a monthly Selkirk wide youth event open for all youth including those youth who are affiliated with a local church. At each drop in we have a short "God-talk" where we share from the Bible and encourage kids to ask questions about what the Bible has to say on relevant life issues. We will have a similar thing happen at our "city-wides" along with some music, games, and special events. Throughout the year we plan things like camping trips, canoe trips, project serve outreaches, and more.

Mission Statement:

As members of the Christian community, we will communicate to youth the life changing message of Jesus Christ, showing concern for their whole person, and challenging them to become His disciples.

Organizational Statement of Faith:

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God.

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return to power and glory.

We believe that the salvation of lost and sinful people is by the grace of God through faith and the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost: they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in Christ.
