Zion Youth Initiative (ZYI)

Organization Description:

Zion Youth Initiative (ZYI) was founded in 2007 by a group of youth, after having analyzed all the causes and effects of hopelessness. With a Mission A fully functional and self propelling programme capable of equipping youths and in the community with skills, facilities and inspiration transforming them from hopelessness to a state of Excellence. With a Vision to mobilize, equip and inspire all youths in the community, and transform them from a state of hopelessness to that of Excellence. The programme areas of operation are; Mukono central division, Ggoma sub county, Kyampisi Sub County, Nakisunga Sub county and Nama sub county. Our programs often benefit Youth, Orphans, Widows, and the Elderly. One of my responsibilities is to pursue different funding opportunities for our Initiative.
Activities carried out.
ZYI’s equips youths with skills on how to generate income on their own, through seminars and workshops which also aims at training them on how to make different projects such as confectionary, tailoring and poultry.
Molding was also introduced where youths resort to making pots, bowls, vase, key holders among others as their source of income.
ZYI also carries out annual mega extraordinary power conferences in Mukono to impact them spiritually and emotionally.
ZYI introduced an activity of child protection. Different social workers and counsellors always met with children of single mothers and orphans during the holidays to guide and train them on how to behave while at home.
• To respect people and to help out their mothers/guardians with house work.
• They are further encouraged to read hand for a better future and avoid bad habits and games under the child protection
• Music, dance and drama and hand craft activity in which most children participate as a sign of keeping them busy so as not to participate in dangerous activities like theft and as away of entertainment.
Achievements
Youths networking with other people who have made it in life like entrepreneurs, alcoholic anonymous, narcotic anonymous who help them get rid of the drug abuse.
Experience in counselling and guidance for the single parents especially women and their mothers have changed from their barbaric activities and a state of hopelessness to having hope in their lives.
Through our Mega extra ordinary power conference, ignorant ways of thinking among children, youths both single and married were changed, some were too much into drug abuse and on several occasions accused each other of causing it and hence developing wrangles. However, through counselling and guidance the problem got solved.
Youths have made Self Help Groups (SHGs) to help in eradicating poverty to those who were unemployed for instance; poultry, the piggery project, tailoring as the source of income.

We want also to put up projects that are targeting the unemployed,
orphans, school dropouts especially the child mothers and drug
addicts, victims of HIV/ AIDS and single mothers, who seem to have any
way out, these groups of people are planed for in different department
projects.
