Werner Boehm

Werner Boehm (1933 – present)

Born in Germany, Werner Boehm came to the United States in 1937 and became an American citizen in 1944. He received an L.L.B. from the University of Dijon (France) in 1936. In 1941, he received his master’s degree in social work from Tulane University.

Werner Boehm is known as a social work educator whose work focused on curriculum development in the U.S. and Canada.

In 1959, Werner edited and published a study on the evaluation of social work education issues (called the “Social Work Education Curriculum Study”). The 13-volume study stressed a broad-cased orientation for social work that recognized five specialization methods including: 1) casework 2) group work 3) community organization 4) administration 5) research

Boehm is also a former dean of the School of Social Work and distinguished professor emeritus at Rutgers University.
