MTSE Capstone Project for Evan Donovan: Holistic Plan for Strategic Enrollment Management

Strategic Enrollment Management is an application of Systems Thinking to higher education, with the objective of aligning all the major functional units of a college/university to achieve the optimal student recruitment and retention rates for its goals.

For the past several years, Evan Donovan has been working on a project both to create a Strategic Enrollment Management plan for City Vision University, and to implement critical parts of that plan. The 2nd chapter of the Handbook of Strategic Enrollment Management by Don Hossler, Bob Bontrager, et al. provides a full definition of Strategic Enrollment Management, and served, in part, as a guide to the work that he did in conjunction with the other staff of City Vision.

There were several separate sub-projects which he did as a part of this overall project, touching on various departments with the college. The most significant of these are listed below:

  1. Designing the new City Vision website and related sites (Marketing) – can be viewed publicly
  2. Developing an admissions tracking system in AirTable that integrates automatically with the website (Admissions) – proprietary
  3. Revising Financial Aid processes and communications to optimize student recruitment (Admissions / Financial Aid) – proprietary
  4. Revising Student Services processes, particularly around academic progress monitoring, to optimize student retention (Student Services) – proprietary
  5. Creating a course in English Composition to improve student retention by improving their writing skills (Academics) – public version attached below (not the latest version of the course)

The presentation attached below summarizes the work that was done, and some future objectives.

The English Composition course below is an open source/OER version of some of the content from the originally-developed course (not the latest version), and is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0.
